Modern civilization demands not only our understanding of materials properties, but also expect we’ll be able to design and control materials to address a wide range of functionalities. I’ll give a broad view of materials research, in addition I’ll describe Los Alamos National Laboratory current and future approaches to address the critical need for new materials that can function under extreme temperature, pressure, or radiation environments
